Summer 2005

The Believer's Ultimate Weapon - Most Christians find it difficult in this humanistic, materialistic age to adjust their world view to include a hierarchy of evil spirits operating against those who are a part of the kingdom of God.  I believe Timothy M. Warner is correct in his observation that we evangelicals so often become functional deists: we assume that we hold a Christian world view because we believe in a personal God.

Spring 2005

Receive The Holy Spirit - While faith in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ makes salvation a fact settled in heaven, it hasn't dawned on many believers that it is the inner working of the Holy Spirit that confirms it as spiritual reality. In studying the book of Romans we understand that believing the Gospel brings about a judicial change in the sinner, but our God of salvation seeks to make us conscious of this by giving us His Spirit.

Summer 2004

Mission to India - Early in 2001, a prayer partner in Indianapolis called and said he felt I should be praying the prayer of Jabez for Christian Renewal Ministries. I studied the prayer in I Chron. 4:10, and felt inspired of the Spirit as I cried out with Jabez , "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory ?" In a matter of days I received word from another prayer partner, Dr. Wesley Duewel, telling me he had felt led to recommend me as one of the speakers for a large annual Spiritual Life Convention in Allahabad, India, and felt I should go when called in the year 2001.

Spring 2004

A Passion For God's Glory - God usually hides Himself from the half-hearted, the self-satisfied and the double minded. But He delights in revealing Himself to any who seek Him in single-hearted desperation. He is a God of grace, and He will meet anyone with forgiveness and transformation of heart and adoption into His redeemed family when they come to Him with faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. And then He meets His children in sanctifying grace when they come to Him confessing the sin in their hearts and trusting in Christ's purifying power as it is administered by the Holy Spirit who is already indwelling them.

REPORT FOR 2003The older I get and the longer I minister, the more I realize that being called of God to preach the Gospel, to sound the call to prayer and try to prepare the Church for revival means that I am into a ministry that is infinitely beyond my abilities ? I am in ?way over my head.?  I?m sure this realization has caused me to adopt the apostle Paul?s testimony in II Cor. 3:5-6 as my prayer and confidence as I go from place to place: ?Not that we are sufficient of ourselves ? but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.?

Fall 2003

Why Does Revival Tarry? In response to the most common question coming to me by letters, e-mails, telephone and person-to-person in these days, "Why don't we see revival here in America?", I have decided to refer us to a powerful book by Leonard Ravenhill, Why Revival Tarries, published in 1959, and again in 1960 by Bethany Fellowship, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Summer 2003

Prayer + Purity = Power The Holy Spirit was so faithful to deal patiently with me in the early 1980s to venture out into a ministry that majored in prayer instead of theology, preaching, administration and scholarship.  I recall several sobering thoughts during those years that He used to get me to finally take the plunge in 1986:  A number of times I had the sense of standing before Christ at the Judgment Seat and hearing Him say...

Spring 2003

A New Thing The God of Israel had a long history as a God of power.  The God of the Exodus from Egyptian bondage was determined to be the God of the Exodus from Babylonian bondage to His people Israel.  But the human factor had to be reckoned with.  The people of Israel must prepare for their deliverance from captivity.  A part of their preparation was to let go of the old in order to have faith for the new.

Winter 2002

REPORT FOR 2002 As I make this year-end report, my heart is filled with rejoicing that I was not alone in my efforts to see revival come to the church across America and in other parts of the world!  First, I thank God for the faithfulness of the Holy Spirit.  Not once did He fail me throughout the year of 2002 as I ministered in 13 states and in the country of India, in thirteen Schools of Prayer, three pastoral conferences and three revival meetings.  In every case, He has been faithful to give to me the rhema Word for the people!

Fall 2002

The Kingdom of God is at Hand Why are thousands of Christian congregations in North America locked in spiritual stalemate with boring services and barren altars? It is not due to the lack of sound doctrine, sincere preaching, adequate facilities and friendly worshipers. We have to look beyond the visible for the answers.

Summer 2002

Destroying Strongholds  Why are thousands of Christian congregations in North America locked in spiritual stalemate with boring services and barren altars? It is not due to the lack of sound doctrine, sincere preaching, adequate facilities and friendly worshipers. We have to look beyond the visible for the answers.

Spring 2002

New Testament Praying  Jesus? final discourse on prayer took place within the context of the Paraclete Passages (John 14:15-21; 14:26-27; 15:26-27; 16:7-15). These promises concerning the coming of the Holy Spirit had to do with many things in the lives of Christ?s followers, not the least of which would mean a new economy of prayer. I want us to consider at least four components of New Covenant praying as emphasized by Jesus in His final message on prayer.

Fall 2001

Hearts Aflame We are indebted to Luke the physician for recording the declared basic purposes of our Lord Jesus for coming to planet earth: to seek and to save the lost (19:10); and to set the earth aflame (12:49). Perhaps we should say that in these two verses we have the motive (to seek and save the lost) and the manner (to set hearts aflame) for His coming.

Summer 2001

The Breath of God It is not enough to know that Ruach Ha Kodesh is the secret of our spiritual life and ministry success; we must know how to receive, how to inhale, how to keep on being filled. As Jesus "breathed on" the disciples, He said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit" (John 20:22, emphasis mine).

Spring 2001

Leaking Vessels Paul the apostle had been accused of secretive, underhanded measures in the conduct of his ministry. In defending his integrity, he declares that nothing has been hidden, that he is free from crafty misleadings, and testifies to a clear conscience before God and man. Then the apostle goes on to say that because of God?s mercy, he is not driven to despair; he is not disheartened. The integrity and dignity of his ministry are dependent upon the power of God and not his own abilities.

Winter 2001

A Personal Appeal for Prayer Most of the issues of these quarterly Christian Renewal Journals have been relatively free from personal reference or testimony, but as we move more deeply into the darkness of apocalyptic times and face the subtlety and fury of Satan?s strategies, I feel led of the Spirit to personally beg for more and more prayer.

Fall 2000

Amsterdam 2000 To attend or not to attend - that was the big question for me about two years ago when Billy Graham wrote a number of his friends to lay out his vision of bringing thousands of the preaching evangelists of the world together again for prayer, fellowship, training and seeking the will of God for His plans and anointing for completing the Great Commission as early in the twenty-first century as possible.

Summer 2000

Unless You Repent Only a genuine, full-scale, historic revival will bring about the holiness and power in the lives of the people of God to make us ready to meet the Lord. Only such a revival will fill the Church with the passion and purpose to complete its mission and bring back the King.

Spring 2000

The Struggle of Prayer It is nothing short of tragic that so much of the church today is either too passive or too preoccupied to study the nature of intercessory prayer and make the necessary commitment for the unleashing of its glorious power.

Winter 2000

Harps and Bowls As we turn to the book of Revelation in these times, we all need to be reminded of a classic observation on this final book of the Old Testament made by Dr. Jack W. Hayford in his new work, E Quake, "the book of Revelation will never make sense as a collection of prophecies until it is approached as a handbook on worship!" (p. 11).

Fall 1999

The Meaning of Holiness When God speaks in His Word of a person, place, or thing being "holy," He means that such a person, place, or thing, is no common, ordinary, insignificant person, place, or thing; that he, she, or it, has been set apart for a divine purpose. To be holy is to be unique or special. When a person, place, or thing is holy, it is different from the rest, distinctively better, reserved for a special purpose.

Summer 1999

Destroying the Strongholds The careful reader of the Second Corinthian epistle will note a serious change in the tone of the apostle as he comes to the tenth chapter in which he decides to tackle spiritual bondage. Spiritual warfare requires spiritual weapons if a successful war is going to be waged. No matter who is doing the fighting, and regardless of the circumstances, the war is won only if the effort results in freedom. The apostle Paul intended to see the Corinthians go from bondage to freedom.

Spring 99

Preparing For Revival So many American Christians expect nothing more at this late and dangerous hour than the wrath of God to be poured out on their wicked country, even as a Just and Holy God poured out judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah. And this is surely what we deserve. And yet, dear friends, I am convinced that God wants His people to hear what His Spirit is saying to His Church, to meet His conditions for revival, in order to show the world His merciful and amazing end-time plans.

Winter 1999

Holiness and Prayer The apostle knew that Timothy's prayer life would be the secret of his power with God and with people. Paul yearned to see his spiritual son mightily used of God, but he knew something of the costly route to such power. He knew that despite Timothy's brilliance and giftedness, his praying could be hindered by carnal compromise, a stricken conscience and a guilt-ridden heart.

Autumn 1998

The Midnight Cry Any attentive reader of the Synoptic Gospels will understand that the Kingdom of God is the central theme. The reign of God has already entered human history in a unique way through the glorious person and work of Jesus Christ, but its consummation awaits a future intervention. So the Kingdom of God has to be seen as both present and future. The Kingdom of God has come; the Kingdom of God is coming.

Summer 1998

Passionate Prayer When the apostle James speaks of "effective praying, "he is referring to prayers that get YES answers. The "righteous" person here in v. 16 is the one who has believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, whose sins are forgiven and who has actually by faith "become the righteousness of God" in Christ. The Father will listen to such a person just as readily as He will His "only begotten Son."

Spring 1998

The Leaven of the Pharisees Both Matthew and Mark record that Jesus used the metaphor of "leaven" (yeast) to warn the disciples against the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Leaven was a common symbol for evil in Jesus' day, and could therefore be applied to many kinds of wickedness with the thought that even a small amount could go a long way and have an insidious effect.

Winter 1998

Having been intrigued by the prayer life of Jesus, the disciples pressed Him to share with them His secrets of prevailing prayer. In His final discourse on prayer, which came within the context of His Paraclete lessons, Jesus told His disciples that things would be different in their prayer life once the Holy Spirit came upon them. Let us see the four components of New Covenant praying as mentioned by Jesus in His last discourse.

Autumn 1997

It Takes Prayer  From the day that Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit in the River Jordan (Luke 3:21-22) to the time of His death on the cross, He was a Man of the Spirit and a Man of Prayer. When He was ready to birth the Church, He ordered a prayer meeting.

Summer 1997

Fighting the Good Fight I still find it shocking that most of our pastors and lay leaders are uncomfortable and unwilling to discuss the subjects of Satan and spiritual warfare. As my friend Jack Taylor says, "Most of the Christian world seems to have taken a vow of silence on these matters." What else can explain the paralysis of spiritual death that grips so many congregations, despite well-educated and well-organized pastors, trained staff, attractive buildings, the latest in technology and a commitment to building a sound spiritual body?

Spring 1997

What the Spirit is Saying to the Church At the close of His message to each of the seven churches in the book of Revelation, our Lord warns each church, He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22).

Winter 1997

Revival in Three Dimensions The Feast of Pentecost followed the Feast of Passover by a week of weeks. Even as the Harvest of Firstfruits was a natural sequel to the celebration of the exodus from Egyptian bondage, so in Christian experience Pentecostal fullness must follow a Calvary of repentance.
