My Greatest Year in Ministry When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling; and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (I Cor. 2:1-5). As I begin this 2008 year-end report to you, my heart is full of humility, gratitude and thanksgiving for the faithfulness of God and for the partnership of so many of you in your fasting, praying and financial giving. Between the years of 1986 (when God called me to the ministry of prayer, revival and the Spirit-filled life, while I was still pastoring, and the year of 1994, when I was called to resign the pastorate and gave full time to this work) God amazingly gave me prayer partners to stand with me in this ministry that entailed spiritual warfare on a scale I had never encountered before. Across the past twenty-two years the number of prayer warriors has increased to represent five continents that I know about. I conducted only ten meetings in 2008, but it has been the greatest year of my ministry in terms of the manifestations of Christ’s Presence, the demonstrations of the Spirit’s power and the nearest thing I have seen to genuine spiritual awakening in I am happy to report that during this year I was inspired and enabled to get started on a new book I’ve known for years the Lord wants me to write – the account of the mighty revival in Since I agree completely with John Wesley when he said, “God does nothing except by prayer,” I am begging you who read to join me in prayer for the following concerns as we face the new year of 2009: * Open Doors. Because I only want to invest my prayers, time, energy and study in those places where the Lord wants me to be, I do not solicit meetings. When an invitation comes (the Lord often tells me before it comes), I soon know whether I’m to accept or not. The size of the crowd, the conditions of believers making up the host church, the prospects of adequate or inadequate financial offerings, the distance of travel – none of these things matter if the Lord impresses me to accept the invitation. The reason every meeting in 2008 was blessed of God is because many of you were praying. I do urge you to continue to cover me and the meetings throughout this new year. No matter how many doubts are hurled at me through the day, right up to the time I’m to deliver God’s message to the people, when I stand up, the Spirit reminds me: “Fear not, I am with you; I will be answering yours and many others’ prayers throughout your message. Speak up! Obey me! Be bold! Trust me, and you’ll see my glory in this service!” For the past year, I never failed in any service to see the glory of God – the altars filled with sinners needing to be saved, believers needing to confess sins of unbelief, self-righteousness, hypocrisy, unforgiveness, bitterness and disobedience and needing to be restored, cleansed and filled with the Spirit, the sick needing healing, and those in bondage needing deliverance. Oh, how I wish you who pray for this could see how God is answering your prayers! Let’s keep on praying! I’ll keep on preaching, teaching and going! And together we’ll all give God the honor and the praise! * My Health. I need to update many of you on my physical condition. Many of you have heard me report my healing from diabetes while in a crusade in * The Book ESTELLE. This is my fifth book, and I must say that I believe it is the most important book I will have written. It is about how God taught my dear mother how to take authority in prayer so that He would change her world. Through Estelle Tharp’s prayers, God sent a sweeping revival to * The BSHOP. It was in August, 1998 that the Lord spoke to me and told me to begin The Big Sky House of Prayer ministry in or near * Financial Support. I am well aware of some of the shady gimmicks and dishonest techniques that are all too often used in these times to raise funds for Christian ministries. Determined with the apostle Paul not to be “a peddler of the Word of God for money” (II Cor. 2:17), I am not going to promise you amazing prosperity if you will send me “a seed Faith” offering. Since most of you tithe your prosperity into your local church, here is what I’m asking you to do: If you really believe there is a need for Christian Renewal Ministries, then please go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him what you should invest in this ministry. Then take the enclosed card and fill it out the way the Spirit leads you – whether a one-time offering, a monthly gift or otherwise. And please share your prayer requests on the back of your commitment card. I shall personally take these requests regularly before the Lord. * Our Board and Personnel. I am grateful to my daughter and executive assistant, Pris Larsen, for her selfless and efficient services in leading this ministry. Also, I am grateful to Vanessa McMurray, our Director of the Big Sky House of Prayer. And, finally, thanks to our Board of Directors – Dave & Marilyn Bos, Paula Butterfield, Greg & Rina Donaldson, Gail & Betty Fremont, Duncan & Susan Hill, Kyle & Vanessa McMurray, Ben & Ruth Ann Smith – for their faithful prayers, generous giving and wise counsel.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Happy New Year
from Jim and his staff and board.
We hope you have a blessed and joyful 2009!
