A.C.T.S.S.

This acrostic is used to remind us
of a pattern for our prayers

It’s like ACTS, but it’s got an extra ‘S’.

In this pattern we are reminded that our prayers should include Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication, and Surrender

Adoration:

bulletWe Praise God for WHO HE IS
bulletNo matter how great we can imagine anything could be, God is greater.
bulletHe is Love absolute and perfect
bulletHe is merciful and at the same time Just
bulletHe is Holy
bulletHe is creator of the universe, able to sustain or destroy it.

Confession:

bulletWe confess our sins
bulletWe agree with God's verdict of our sinful behavior

1st John 1.8: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us, but if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive our sins

Thanksgiving:

bulletWe thank God for what He has done
bulletIt is natural that we should thank God for the gifts He has given to us.
bulletAs we begin to thank God, we also begin to see things He has given that we have not recognized as from God.
bulletWe acknowledge our dependence on the Lord
bulletWe are reminded of God's faithfulness
bulletIn Thanksgiving, we can begin to see our current needs, and desires in a different light.

Supplication:

bulletWhen we ask for ourselves,
bulletWe acknowledge God's ability to provide
bulletGod gives us everything we need.

(Sermon on the Mount, Matt 6:33 But seek his kingdom, and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.)

bulletGod gives us everything we need to do his will.
bulletWhen we ask for others, we express our love for others
bulletScripture teaches us to pray for each other

Eph 6:18 " ... always keep on praying for the saints"

Surrender:

bulletI yield myself to his control,
bulletI acknowledge that he is LORD and I am his servant
bulletGod wants to answer our prayers, but God must be in control of our lives to bless us, and to provide for us.
bulletWhen we are weak, then we are strong for we have God's strength
bulletWhen we surrender to God, we overcome the world, sin, and Satan
bulletIn surrendering to God, we are able to follow the Holy Spirit
bulletThrough surrender, we achieve victory
