“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3, NKJV
Heavenly Father, we thank You for this challenge to Jeremiah, who was in prison and suffering from abusive treatment for his obedience to You. His nation of Israel was disobedient, rebellious, and headed for destruction. But, Lord, here in our Scripture in Jeremiah, You visit the prophet with the remedy and the secret to revival.
How grateful we are that You have been giving the same call to Your people for more than 2,000 years. But, we praise you that in this 21st century we believe You are giving American believers, more than ever before, an ear to hear Your call to Spirit-empowered, sacrificial, fervent prayer, and fasting.
And, Lord, I believe we are beginning to hear some of Your answers. Your Word warns that revival is serious and dangerous warfare; there is the clash of two kingdoms, the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of evil, the war between Heaven and Hell taking place right here on planet earth. We believe there is an encouraging number of believers who are hearing your call to prayer. Christian pastors are feeling the Spirit’s direction for them to preach on prayer and fasting. More Christians who have been almost prayerless are responding by taking prayer more seriously. Parents who have been indifferent about the moral and spiritual young people in their homes are turning to prayer. Some, like myself, are taking seriously the call to add fasting to our praying. Yes, there is an awful increase in the boldness of evil as we learn of mass murders, suicides, corruption in business and politics, and immorality among leaders in high places. But we need to realize that this is a part of the ebb and flow of warfare. Lord Jesus, You warned that we Christians would suffer abuse in many ways because of our faith in You. Help us realize that the battle is on, and may we be strong!
But Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, help us hear Your answer and deepen our commitment to prayer and fasting and increase the numbers. You are calling us to tarry, cry out, be persistent, and never give up, knowing You are our only hope.
What You promise is worth the fight and the wait. Oh, may we endure! It will be worth it all to see the great and mighty things You plan for these last days. Lord, as we read in the book of Acts, Your early Christians saw some mighty outpourings of Your Spirit. And across the centuries You have kept Your church alive by periodic revivals. In the 1700s here in America, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, David Brainerd, and others saw some powerful revivals. In the 1800s that Cane Ridge Revival in Kentucky included 25,000 saints and sinners falling to the ground in worship, repentance, and faith in one swift second; and after several weeks, they went back to their communities in four different states to form worship places, win the lost to Christ, and change their areas from darkness to light. Also, in the 1800s we can never forget the mighty Prayer Revival led by Jeremiah Lanphier in New York City that spread to all the cities up and down the east coast and as far west as Denver, leading to hundreds of thousands finding Christ as Savior.
Now, Lord, help us believe You are powerful and faithful to keep Your promise that in these last days You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power at work in us (Ephesians 3:20, NKJV). Lord, open the Heavens and pour out an epidemic of repentance across America on saints and sinners—one that would become a mighty movement across every state in our union restoring millions of saints to the joy of their salvation and drawing tens of millions of lost souls to Christ with saving grace that will lead to sanctifying power!
Please, Lord, come in sweeping power to cleanse the fabric of our American culture—the kind that will defeat and destroy the evils of idolatry, irreverence, and immorality. Come with amazing signs and wonders, lifting curses on individuals, families, communities, schools, and places of business—the kind that brings deliverance of young and old from addictions to drugs, immoral sex, murder, and suicide. Lord, come on the minds and hearts of cynics, critics, and liars—the kind that helps the Christian politicians clean up the swamps of corruption in our national, state, and local governments. We read in Scripture how Jesus loved to heal the sick and how the apostles healed so many sick and afflicted after Pentecost that the crowds stood in awe and were drawn to the services and daily people were saved and added to the church. As a Healer, Lord, give us faith today in Your power to touch and heal men and women (saints and sinners) dying with cancer and other incurable diseases and see your glory again!
Now, Lord, what we really long for is Your covering of this whole nation with Your glory so that every soul who has reached the age of accountability will hear Your merciful call to repentance. Then, let them hear the call of the Spirit to faith in Christ. We pray You will move them on to a powerful sanctified life in the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer and obedience so they will find their place in the church for service to You.
Thank You, Lord, for calling us to prayer and for promising to show us great and mighty things! Help us pray, believe, and wait in faith for the greatest outpouring of the glory of God on earth in the history of the church, getting us ready for the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
